A team is like a person, a planet or a tree. It is one, yet a harmonious whole consisting of several organs or parts. The key word here is cooperation. Each part has its own function and they work together for the growth and development of the whole. It seems that the Parkngo team is also gradually finding its way of life. The inner workings of the team are becoming more and more structured, gaps are being filled and the members are improving. Let’s see now what this all means!
A NEW MAN ON BOARD
“Robert joining us gave us a whole new breath of air. He is a person with real skills, excellent learning ability and the willpower to acquire new skills. I also had a small conversation with Robert, which was a customized mini-version of our development conversations to see how he fits in with the team and which role he fits into. In his case, I liked his mentality of not leaving things undone, his focus on development and the fun element he maintains behind all of the hard work. A balanced and determined person! ”
Let us also let Robert have a say in our blog and introduce himself briefly:
“I am an entrepreneurial young man whose main hobby is software development and everything related to computers. In the ParknGo team, I will work on the landing page and app development. In the future, I want to bring more attention to virtual reality and its possibilities for the development of humanity. ”
A bit about the refurbished order of the team
“A little about what changed after the conversations. Based on our interests, we divided the areas and tasks more specifically, and everyone had to make as detailed action plans for the next month as possible. The main goal for January was to get a landing page done.
I added even more structure and agreements to the organizational side of the meetings. All of our meetings are documented, the documentation is done according to the set schedule. At the end of each meeting, the topics for the next meeting are set and everyone can add further discussion points during the week. In addition to the meeting procedures, we also have a general “good practice” document, where we have written down what we expect from each other and what principles we rely on with our work. Believe me, it is necessary. People are different. One thing that may be self-explanatory to me, can be something totally different to someone else. It is much more fun to build a team than to repair a partial foundation at a later stage.
All of the team members have a personal folder in Google Drive that is accessible to everyone. Our important value is honesty, so we keep our work open to each other. This also gives me a better understanding of when someone is working, what their progress is and where have they stopped at. I’m a bit of a freak. I have learned to use Google Drive with spy skills. If an ordinary person might be scrolling Instagram or reading the news for fun, I’ll take a look at the team’s work. Who. Where. What.
We have one mandatory meeting every week and, if necessary, an additional meeting. The weekly meeting begins with everyone talking about what they have accomplished in a week. It gives a good overview of the whole team, where we are at right now and helps to keep all areas in the same development phase. Secondly, it is also to maintain motivation and everyone feeling responsible in front of others. When everyone else on the team has built a castle in a week, you would have to have a lot of courage to talk about all of the five films you managed to watch in a week. Next we would discuss any current topics. If someone needs help, a different opinion, has questions or ideas, then this is our moment for discussion. At the end of the meeting, we take a look at the next week and agree on what everyone is going to do. Easy as one-two-three.
That name again
One of my tasks on the team is to keep my eyes open. Sounds obvious, but in reality requires conscious attentiveness. I read Äripäev every day, follow relevant groups and listen to podcasts. I highly recommend the following: Choose a company that is similar to yours or you would like to be similar to and start researching it. Listen to what the business leaders have to share and how they have succeeded. We have been influenced by Bolt a lot, for example. Markus’ are smart boys you know. In addition to all the big thoughts, I also got one small but important thought. Why did Taxify become Bolt? -Because they expanded their
field of expertise. Why do Barking executives say they want to change their name? -Because they are expanding their scope. What have we been thinking lately? Extension of our activities. ParknGo is clearly a parking-centric name and would prevent us from conquering new lands. Through hustle and bustle, we decided to put the name issue back on the agenda and started looking for the “Right One”. For all subsequent meetings, everyone was required to think of at least 5 or more names. The-long-name-torment-takes-us-to-our-last-limit-and-will-soon-end-here-help-help-help! ”
SHOULD A THOROUGH MARKET STUDY BE CARRIED OUT?
“Having been with the company for some time, we were still in the very beginning. We had to take even more real steps to make the idea of five young and green students of forming a company into a reality.
We realized that obviously we can’t start anything until we know if there is a real demand for our idea. This is the case for both parkers and parking space owners. Plus, we needed to figure out what we should be focusing on – how to create a platform that meets the needs of our customers. Not “in our opinion” a cool platform, but in the eyes of customers. These two can be very different. At first glance, it seems that we know what the customer wants – drivers want to park cheaply and parking lot owners want to earn a hefty rental income! What else is there to discuss here? In hindsight, I can say that it is not that easy. Initial assumptions are often incorrect. The truth only comes from the client’s own mouth. And that’s it.
Thus, the decision was simple and logical. Let’s conduct the market research! A study that would give us real information. We recognized that not all of us could compile a study together. That would be too confusing and time-consuming. It is easier for someone alone to prepare it and then later jointly we would review, specify, add new details and the finishing touches. Since I am interested in everything related to the customers, I decided to take on the market research. I felt that I could use clever questions to find out the customers’ secret wishes and thus lay a solid foundation for our future work. So I had to put together a proper market research. As with everything you do for the first time, there was a lot of confusion and mixed thoughts. But how the study went – find out in the next part! ”
“The time has come to review the features of our future app and everything related to it. Fortunately, we have a point to start with. We had to do homework as part of the subject of technology entrepreneurship. We took the opportunity and sketched the original version of our app and its features on paper and, to be more precise, on a napkin. At first, of course, the picture was not the most beautiful. Our task was to make such a clear drawing that anyone could easily understand the app and how it works. It took us dozens of pages for the original version, but the work was done, presented to ‘random’ people, and it seemed like it was clear to them.
Now that our website is quietly in the process of being completed, it is time to start working more actively on the app again. After a closer examination of the matter, we decided that the best solution is to make the app yourself at a very simple level, ready to show for investors, and after we have received a slight money injection, we would make a polished version of the app. Of course, we would want to make the coolest app right now, but unfortunately none of us are specialized developers and we are short of money (because it’s not cheap fun), so we thought that the best way is to make a version with simple features but make it a working one. We made a plan of what features we wanted and discussed what was feasible. We divided that the three of us would be working on it, Robert developing, Gustav and Loreta designing and planning. We believe that it will take time, but we will do our best to make it good and convincing enough for some investors to believe in us. We will first make the design on paper and then on the computer. The difficult part is connecting the gate opener device to our app. At the same time, I am confident that nothing is impossible for us and we will all get everything working that we have planned. Good cooperation and our fast learning ability will help us continue! ”
The sky seems clear to Parkngo. But we Estonians know that there may be a low tide behind the rise, after the silence there will be a storm, we must not cheer before the evening and everyone’s favorite proverb “Life in Parkngo must be exciting!”. So we keep a smile on our faces, but our fist ready for the next challenges. Who is the next opponent our fighters will face? Until the next match!
