Introduce yourself with 3-5 sentences in as much detail as possible.
I am Janeli. I am studying at EBS High School and I am actively practicing street dance. I am
adventurous, always opened to new opportunities and I won’t back out on anything. The
most important things to me are honesty, open-mindedness and positive attitude.
Reveal 3 secrets about yourself.
I am scared of horror movies.
I have had eating disorders.
When I was little I dreamt of having 5 children as an adult.
You have a passion for dancing. Tell us the story behind that.
I started dancing at JJ-Street on 2013 in Keila. At the time I was a little bit overweight and
got hints that maybe I should work out. My classmate was going to dancing classes and it
took off thanks to her. I remember my first Hip Hop class. I went there wearing socks and
jeans. I failed in every dance step but I knew that I would defiiately go back.
I am currently training in Tallinn. I have been dancing Hip Hop for 5 years and House for 3
years. Last year I also started going to choreography classes and have been educating myself
in other street dance lessons like Popping, Locking, Krump, Vogue, Waacking, Hip Hop Heels,
Footwork, Litefeet and Pantsula. Trainings take place every day for about 20 hours in a week.
Dancing is a part of street culture, which includes also music, street art and knowledge.
Training has not only taught me to dance but also developed me as a person. I am really
happy and grateful that dancing has brought me together with the people that have similiar
aims and who inspire me every day. Dancing is a form of self-expression, a pleasure and it
really is addicting.
Who has been your biggest inspiration in life?
I have lots of role models and people to look up to but the biggest inspiration to me is my
coach Kerttu Luik.
Why did you choose to study in EBS? What are the most important things that you have
gained via EBS so far?
I came to EBS because I needed a change and this school seemed to be different and
challenging right from the first impression. I was attracted by the abundance of economy
and the connection between High School and University. At EBS I have realized how many
different people with different backgrounds, rearings and personalities there can be, and I
have learned how to communicate with them. I have acquired worthy knowledge about
culture, philosophy, marketing and finance. Creating an student company and finishing it
successfully was also an useful experience.
What are your plans after graduating High School?
I am open to different opportunities until now. I definitely will stay in Estonia because I have
a lot to accomplish here. I have been thinking about staying at EBS but the main focus is on
dancing and developing its culture.
Share with us an awkward moment that you have experienced.
Just recently I got into a funny embarrassing situation. I was at JJ-Street dance school filming
a Hip Hop Heels choreography and there was this movement where I had to go down to a
squat in heels and then right after stand up with straight legs. My pants broke by doing this
but I happily continued dancing until I realized that something felt weird. By then I wasn’t
the only one that had noticed it and the whole studio got a great laugh out of it.
If you could be any fictional character, which one would you be and why?
A Supergirl that bends in any direction and is super artistic, because anything isn’t
unsurpassable for her.
If you could magically learn three skills in a minute, which ones would you choose and
why?
Mind reading skill, because it would be interesting to know what others are thinking only for
once in my life.
The best sales skill because this always comes in handy in life.
IT skills – being able to do everything professionally (programming, photo and video editing,
web design, hacking etc.)
